Touchdown in Boston

5 am came very early today but the excitement of our adventure made it that much easier. Midway Airport was unusually quiet at that early time. We sailed through the TSA checkpoint with no problems and had plenty of time at the gate to grab a bite and ponder what this week would be like. 

Once we landed in Boston we were picked up by our big yellow bus. The narrow streets of Cambridge were a tight fit but we arrived at our home for the week University Lutheran Church. We began to settle in and laid out the puzzle of air mattresses. Boys in two smaller rooms and the girls all in one.  Afterwards we hit the town, got a bite to eat and a tour of the Harvard Yard. Rev. Jeffery did his best tour guide as we walked the campus and he enlightened us about the history of Harvard and the surrounding area. It was easy to see how proud Jeffery was of his alma mater. We finished up the day with Boston style Sicilian pizza and a run to the grocery store to get us set for the week. 

We're using the sanctuary at University Lutheran as our meeting space. Here, Carl McDonald from Boston Immersion met us at the Church. He went though what is expected of us as we visit our work sites.  

Boston is so different but is no stranger to the issues of homelessness and poverty. It's our task this week to offer a hand or a smile. Some conversation and willingness to learn. When we see others from the viewpoint of fellow humans that share the love of God, our tasks become a joy. Let's see what joy tomorrow brings!
